Welcome
Wood Acres Elementary School is fortunate to have a very large and active PTA. The PTA strives to create a supportive community that contributes to the growth of children both as students and individuals.
The PTA supports the school with a broad range of programs. Parent volunteers support the school staff at lunch/ recess, in the media center and as room parents. The students' academic experience is enhanced with planned enrichment programs such as cultural arts assemblies, visiting artists, planetarium instruction, and funding a computer consultant who develops lessons incorporating technology for all of the grades.
The PTA also reaches out to the community with several service projects, including a monthly sandwich collection, a used book drive, and a cold weather clothing collection for our sister schools.
Wood Acres school spirit is fostered though BINGO night, ice skating night and JogFest, as well as many other family fun events through out the year. PTA parents and volunteers contribute time and energy to ensure that these events create lasting memories for all of our children. As necessary, the PTA raises money to support the many activities that county money simply does not cover.
The PTA also advocates for our children and the needs of Wood Acres at the Whitman Cluster level and the county. Communicating through the Wednesday packet, Woodnet and on the website, the PTA strives to keep families informed about the many activities that make Wood Acres a unique community.
PTA Mission and Vision Statement
The vision of the Wood Acres Elementary School PTA is to establish a community of support that contributes to the growth of children as students and individuals by:
- Building bridges of understanding between home, school, and community.
- Providing parent education opportunities.
- Delivering strong enrichment and community programs that make a positive difference in the lives of all our children.
Our mission is to continue to support the school with resources and volunteers:
- For vital functions (teacher training, faculty support, cafeteria/recess, media center volunteers, room parents, landscaping),
- To communicate with parents so we may cooperate intelligently in the education and growth of our children,
- To enhance the students’ experience with planned enrichment activities and community programs (anthology, planetarium, cultural arts and visiting artists, language classes, space night, community service projects, family fun events, orientation and beginning of school activities, farewell activities),
- To advocate on behalf of all children at the cluster and county level, and
- To raise the funds necessary to do so.
