Community Outreach
Our Outreach programs are our way of giving back to the community we care so much about. We also encourage our students to participate in these activities as a way of fostering volunteerism and awareness among our kids. A few of the projects we sponsor are the Warm Clothing Drive and Martha's Table. Look for these programs and more during the school year.
Martha's Table Sandwich and Non-perishable Food Collection
Martha's Table is an ongoing project that happens 7 times during the year. Helping to feed the hungry is a great way to help teach our children how to give to others. Thank you in advance, and we look forward to a great year. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Hallie Werbel at

. The final date for collection is on Monday, April 30th.
Used Book Drive
The Used Book Drive takes place at Wood Acres every year to collect used children's books (and parenting or cooking books for adults) to benefit our sister schools in Silver Spring, New Hampshire Estates (K-2) and Oakview (3-5). Books are collected by parent volunteers before school starts at the main door and the kiss and go door. This year Used Book Drive will be April 16th to 20th.
How you can help: Start sorting through any used books that your family has outgrown! If you (and your child if you wish) are able to help collect/sort the books the week of the drive, please contact Maud Iturregui at 301-320-7235 or

Wood Acres Candy Drive
The candy drive is an annual event that takes place directly after Halloween. Candy is collected from the students and is sent to US military personnel overseas and some local charities as well. This year the drive will take place from November 1st-4th. It is a good way to support our troops and send them some treats in time for the winter holidays. For information or to volunteer, please contact

Thanksgiving Food Drive
The Wood Acres Food Drive will take place November 14th to 18th to benefit Bread for the City, a non-profit agency in Washington, D.C. that provides food, clothing, medical care, legal and social services to people in need. Bread for the City operates Washington's largest food pantry, providing food to 5,000 households each month.
While the three main items requested are cranberry sauce, canned yams and low-sodium stuffing mix -any non-perishable foods are welcome. Think healthy: foods low in fat, cholesterol and sodium. The hope is that by not limiting certain items to certain grades, it will be easier for families to be generous with their giving. We will hold a friendly competition between grades to see which grade donates the most!

if you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help collect the food at the doors in the AM! Thank you!
Warm Clothing Drive
The annual Warm Clothing Drive takes place in October. The PTA collects new and "gently used" winter clothing to donate to families at our sister schools, New Hampshire Estates and Oak View Elementary School. Start setting aside those outgrown sweaters, coats, hats, mittens and scarves. Volunteers are needed each year to help with collecting, sorting and delivery. If you are interested in helping, or if you have any questions, please contact Beth Bautista
