Mad Science

The new Mad Science Coordinator for Wood Acres this year is Irene Tata. She can be reached at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Mad Science sparks imaginative learning when school is out! These hands-on, one-hour science programs are themed around a particular area of science and include such topics as rocketry, magnets, polymers and even the science of toys. Children engage in exciting hands-on activities, watch spectacular demonstrations, participate in inquiry-based discussions and take home things that they have made themselves like model rockets, periscopes, Mad Science putty and more. Mad Science after-school programs offer children a chance to see just how cool science can be! Visit the Mad Science web site at http://www.madscience.org/dc. Register online at http://register.madscience.org/dc or by calling 301-593-4777.

A NEW Mad Science class is now open for registration at Wood Acres. The class is scheduled to
begin December 13th and will continue after Winter Break until February 7th, 2012. The theme of this
session is: EXPLORE THE EARTH, MOON, MARS… AND BEYOND! Mad Science brings the excitement and wonder of space in the Mad Science Guide to the Galaxy After-School Program - a nice complement to our planetarium classes. This program takes children on a voyage of discovery with unique hands-on activities, amazing demonstrations and fun educational take-homes that enable further science play at home.
To register, please go to http://register.madscience.org/dc. We are hoping to get enough students enrolled for two classes so that the students can be divided by age. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Irene Tata at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 646.321.6448. Thank you!
