The Wednesday Packet
The Wednesday Packet is the Wood Acres Elementary School PTA’s Weekly News Brief. It contains all kinds of information relating to the PTA and other school-related activities, such as family fun events, fundraising events, charity efforts, volunteering opportunities, important dates and other announcements.  There are four main sections of the Wednesday Packet:
    1.    A two-week calendar at the top of the front page to quickly show you what’s coming up, e.g., PTA events and other important school info,
    2.    a quick listing of additional upcoming events so you can mark your calendar well in advance,
    3.    a front page section with brief articles, and
    4.    attached flyers from PTA committees or from the Wood Acres front office (e.g., event registration form, volunteer forms, guidance counselor hand-outs, etc.).

Starting with the Wednesday Packet dated Nov. 9, 2011, parents were given the opportunity to “opt out” of receiving the hardcopy version of the packet if they preferred to save paper and read it online.  Because of this change, we have revised our instructions for contributing to the packet.  Our goal is to ensure that all information for the packet will be easy to see, regardless of whether someone is reading the hardcopy or they are reading it online.

Steps to contribute information to the Wednesday Packet:

    •    To place a PTA-related article in the cover page of the packet, send a concise article (including both a title and article text) BY 12:00 NOON THE PREVIOUS FRIDAY to both This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Please include "For Wed Packet" in the subject of your email.  Include any links to websites that apply.  Feel free to include a picture or graphic if you wish; if you submit your article by the deadline, we should also have time to try to find an appropriate picture to help your article stand out. 

    •    To add a PTA-related flyer to the packet, send an email BY 12:00 NOON THE PREVIOUS FRIDAY to both This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it that includes the following:

1. Include “For Wed Packet” in the email subject
   
2. Attach your flyer(s) in either Adobe PDF format or Microsoft Word document format.   PLEASE NOTE:  You must email your flyer – you can no longer just drop a hardcopy in the copy room bin.  We need the electronic copy so that online readers will see your content.  If you only have a hardcopy, the printer in the computer lab can scan your document and email it to you so that you can submit it for the Wednesday Packet.
   
3. Include a concise cover page article – an article title and text – that  will call attention to your flyer.  This step used to be optional, but now it is required so that online readers do not miss your information.  The PTA communications team will ensure that your online article contains the appropriate link to your flyer (or page) on the PTA site.

A footnote about distribution:
The current edition of the Wednesday Packet is always available online at www.woodacrespta.org.  Beginning on November 9, 2011, we launched a GO GREEN program to help reduce the number of paper copies that must be duplicated and distributed each week.  The program provided the opportunity for parents to “opt out” of receiving the paper copy.  A WoodNet email --with a link to the current packet-- is sent out weekly to remind families that the new packet is available online.

A paper copy is sent home weekly in your child's classroom folder -- for the youngest Wood Acres student in your family -- if your family has not opted out.
