Computer Volunteers
No previous experience necessary! We teach you everything you need to know.
At Wood Acres we are fortunate to have a Technology Specialist funded by the PTA who works with teachers to develop exciting new projects for our children in the computer lab. However under MCPS rules this paid technology support does not extend to support in the classroom or lab, and teaching in a computer lab setting has it's own challenges.
At Wood Acres we make extensive use of parent volunteers to help teachers and reduce the student teacher ratio in the computer lab. Parents can pick and choose which projects or lessons they want to volunteer for depending on their own availability. For each project/lesson, parents attend a short training session showing them how they can best help the students.
In the past, parent volunteers have helped teachers by setting up activities in the lab prior to the class's arrival. They have also helped students navigate the various activities, read and understand material and learn research techniques.
In Kindergarten classrooms, parent volunteers are needed to assist students with computer based instructional activities.
