Welcome: Newcomer
Welcome to Wood Acres Elementary School!
There are over 700 children attending WAES, which makes us a large community! Assimilating to a school of our size can be daunting, but the PTA Newcomers Committee is here to help! Our mission is to ease the transition of new families into the school and community. We have a variety of programs for new families including:
- Newcomers Welcome Packet – The PTA has compiled a packet of helpful information with a school directory and school and community resources.
- The Parent Buddy System – Each new family will be put in contact with the room parent(s) of their child/children’s classrooms. This parent is a friendly contact that will be available to answer any and all questions.
- Quarterly Coffees with Principal Sherburne – WAES Principal will host quarterly coffees for all Wood Acres parents. This is an opportunity to learn about school programs from Mrs. Sherburne and meet other Wood Acres Parents. Dates TBD.
- Annual Newcomers Reception – Kick off the new school year by meeting other new families, school administrators and the PTA Executive Committee. This adults-only cocktail reception will be held October 8th.
- “Helpful Tips” Feature – Each month a seasoned Wood Acres parent will share what they feel are helpful tips (and sometimes little know facts) that cover a wide range of topics relating to Wood Acres school and activities. This is a great feature to read for learning about the ins and outs of Wood Acres.
The first item on your checklist is to contact Wood Acres ES school office and enroll your child or children at Wood Acres. The office will notify the Newcomers Committee of your arrival; however, we encourage you to also contact the Newcomers Committee directly by sending an email to Jill Headley, Newcomers Committee Chair, at
